Well, this DIYer doesn’t know what to do now. Kitchen renovation and I wanted to take off the piece that goes across the cabinets and install a wall light. Purchased an old work junction box, cut the hole (which was very difficult) and now I see why. Am I SOL on a wall light and need to put the top piece back on or is there something I can do?

Just tuck the wire and mount the light

They sell “pancake” junction boxes at Home Depot and Lowe’s, they are very shallow and about the depth of the Sheetrock

Get an led light fixture
Connect wires and set up light right there

Is that wire between drywall and sheathing???

No worries… with a wood chisel notch out the header just enough so that the wire is flush behind the box.

You hit the window header. There may be a void a few inches higher that you may be able to put a full depth box in.

I did it! Chiseled a small trench out of the header for the wire to lay flat in, attached a pancake box, wired up the fixture and attached to the wall. Done! Thanks everyone for your help.
