How Long Does Chicken Last in the Freezer?

From the USDA to some of the top chefs globally, they all agree on one thing; you can keep a whole chicken in the freezer for an entire year. After that, the quality of the chicken begins to fade. If you cut the chicken up into parts, such as cutlets, they last for about 9 months in the freezer.
For eggs they can last up to 12 months. Remember they have to be separated from the shell, and both the yolks and whites must be beaten together.

If you have a stew with chicken, it will last 2 to 3 months if put into the freezer. Any leftover cooked chicken will last 2 to 6 months if put into the freezer.

How to Prevent Freezer Burn?

Freezer burn is the bane of anyone’s existence when it comes to storing food. The best way to store food in the freezer is to vacuum seal. By removing the air and sealing the bag, you are guaranteeing a prolonged freshness, as well as reduced freezer burn with your food.

Don’t have a way to vacuum seal your food? Fret not, as you can buy freezer bags from the grocery store, put your food inside, and push out all of the air manually. Try your best to get as much of the air out as possible; this way, you can reduce freezer burn.

As long as your food is not exposed to air, then freezer burn should not occur.

What Temperature Should a Freezer be Set at?

Ideally, your freezer should be set to 0 degrees Fahrenheit, or -18 degrees Celsius. The idea is the colder, the better. We know that freezing is 32 degrees Fahrenheit; however, to store your food for a long time properly, the temperature needs to be at 0. By doing this, you are slowing down deterioration and ensuring fresh food.

How Long Does Fish Last in the Freezer?

For shellfish, it is about the same time. It should last about a year as long as it is stored and appropriately frozen in the freezer.
